What's new in Version 4
New AI models, edits that listen, clip hints, and RoboRob
Version 4 of the Edit App is the biggest update yet. The way it understands your footage has been rebuilt from the ground up, and it now listens to your clips as well as watching them.
You don't need to change how you work. Keep following the storyboards, and you should find more of your edits come through blue and ready to approve.
Rebuilt AI models
I've retrained every model that finds the key moments in a jump, using a lot more real jumps than before:
- Freefall — a new freefall detector. If it can't find an obvious freefall on a videographer card, it picks the best section it can.
- Exit and opening — found from the camera's accelerometer track, with a new vision model to fall back on when the accelerometer isn't sure.
- Landing — a new landing model for both videographer and handcam. If it isn't confident, it leaves the landing for you to place rather than guessing.
- Scenes — a new model that works out what each clip shows, so it can give the clip the right job.
If your camera doesn't record an accelerometer track, the app will remind you to check the exit, opening and landing carefully.
Edits that listen
The app now listens to every clip and uses what it hears:
- Interviews end when the talking ends, not at a fixed length. You'll only get a
long interview
warning when an interview really has been cut short. - You can hear your customer. On a Walk & Talk or a Plane Chat (see below), the music drops and their voice comes through, cleaned up to cut through the wind and engine noise.
- Up to 12 story clips for everyone. There's no setting for it any more.
Combo edits
- Gear check — the accelerometer now spots the gear check, so the handcam cut-ins steer clear of it.
- Camera flyer shots — the app looks for camera flyer shots, and deliberately features them in the edit.
- Easier editing — drag clips between the videographer and handcam lists.
Clip hints
Hints are a window into how the AI is thinking. As well as giving each clip a type, the app now gives some clips a hint about how it plans to use them:
- Walk & Talk — a quick chat on the walk out to the plane.
- Plane Chat — your customer talking in the plane, played over quieter music. If your dropzone doesn't want these, turn off Allow plane chat in Settings.
- Canopy Outro — a goodbye to the camera under canopy.
- Bonus Interview — a group interview with friends or family, before or after the jump.
You'll see the hint on each clip in the edit screen, so you can see what the app decided, and why. You can set hints yourself if you want to, but we don't expect you to.
Pick the music
You can now override the music selection for a given track if you need/want to. The picker shows you which tracks fit the shape of the edit.
RoboRob
Stuck? Click Ask RoboRob in the toolbar and just ask, e.g. How do I fix a wrong QR code?
RoboRob knows all the help articles and video tutorials, and links you to the exact article, or the exact point in a video, where the answer is. Let it know whether the answer helped. That's how it gets better.
Other improvements
- Microphone on each clip — you can see which clips have their sound in the edit.
- Add File — added clips now go to the bottom of the list.
- Dragging the landing — move the landing point and the rest of the landing is re-worked from there.
- Backup drives — the drive warning now links to the Managing Backup Drives video.
Plus lots more minor fixes for stability and usability.
Any questions, ask RoboRob or message me on the WhatsApp group.
